Have the Perfect Matte Lips at Home

How to achieve matte perfection

As a lover of the latest makeup trends, none have appealed to me more than the matte-lip – oh yeah, you know the one, absolute matte-lip perfection.

Unfortunately, I have a lot of lipsticks in my makeup bag that don’t cut the biscuit when it comes to matte perfection, but rather than let them go to waste, I have done some research on how to incorporate them into the mix. So, in this blog I am going to address a question I have asked myself a lot lately – can I make an ordinary lipstick matte? And, to cut a long story short, you’ll be glad to know the answer is yes!

All you need is your favourite shade of non-matte lipstick and a few beauty bits and bobs which I am hoping you can find in your makeup bag/ beauty drawer or won’t cost too much to buy. Keep scrolling to find out how you can transform your lipstick into this season’s hottest beauty trend and you can thank us later.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Translucent powder
  • Tissue
  • Makeup brush
  • Your favourite non-matte lipstick
  • Corresponding lip liner (optional)

Here’s how to do it:

1.Lip liner

First things first, carefully use a lip liner to line your lips, this will help ensure that your finished look will last through wear and tear throughout the day.

  1. Apply lipstick

Take your non-matte lipstick and apply it on top of your lip liner. If you’re a perfectionist like me, I’ll sometimes line my lips again after I apply lipstick so that my lines are as neat and sharp as possible.

  1. Tissue paper is your friend

Use a tissue and separate the layers so that you have one very fine sheet.

  1. Tissue paper + Translucent powder = Godsend

Place the single layer of tissue over your lips and dust your translucent powder over your lips using a makeup brush. This works a treat because the tissue will help to filter the amount of powder applied to your lips. It’s best to start small and build up so that you can reach your desired texture without over doing it.

  1. Complete the look, and pout!

Lastly, take the tissue off your lips and then dust a thin layer of translucent powder directly onto your lips to complete the look!

And there you have it, as easy as that you have now created a rich, velvety matte texture without breaking the bank on new beauty products. Got to love a fab DIY makeup trick or two!
