When it comes to skin imperfections, puffiness and under-eye circles – concealer can be an absolute life-saver. Understanding which concealer to use and how to apply it properly, can make a huge difference. And that’s where we come in… we’ve collated some top tips from experts which are all about using concealer in the right way and in all the right places.
How to conceal an uneven skin tone
If you suffer from an uneven skin tone, concealer can be a really useful tool to help improve your skin’s appearance. This method can also be used for covering up facial scars. For this, you will need a heavier concealer because the thicker texture contains less oil and will last longer. You will also need lifting concealer, a makeup sponge and translucent powder.
Here’s how to do it:
Apply the concealer with a brush and cover the problem area entirely. Dab one coat of the lifting concealer over the area to make the dark spot brighter. Dampen your beauty sponge and dip it into loose powder and then blend the area in evenly. Use a translucent mineral powder to finish and set the area.
How to conceal under-eye circles
When it comes to hiding under-eye circles, the most important thing to remember is to make your eyes look brighter. In addition, a brightening concealer and loose highlighting powder will make a world of difference. Because the skin under your eyes is so delicate, it’s best to use a concealer that’s oil-based and will keep this area moisturised and hydrated throughout the day. Concealers which are pink or peach in tone are the best to help counteract the blue tones of your dark eye circles.
Here’s how to do it:
Dot the brightening concealer in a line under your eye, starting at the inner corner and working to the outer edge of your eye.
Use a makeup sponge which is a little damp, then dip it into your loose highlighting powder. Dab it over the concealer and blend evenly into your skin. Finish up by brushing a small bit of the powder under your eye to make sure it sets correctly and to prevent creasing.
How to conceal blemishes
Green concealers are best for covering up blemishes which are red in colour as they will help to neutralise the appearance, whilst also disguising the inflammation. So, you’ll need a green concealer and a brush to apply it, concealer and loose powder.
Here’s how to do it:
Load a concealer brush with the green concealer and apply it onto the blemish, first start in the middle and make light brush strokes outwards. You want the concealer to fade into your skin, with the middle of the blemish being the most concentrated area.
Ensure your index finger is clean and use it to dab onto the concealer stick and apply to the blemish. Use a patting motion and apply until the skin tone looks even and the area is completely covered up.
Use a blending brush to lightly dust the loose powder onto your skin, and blend all three products together.
How to conceal puffiness
We all have days when our skin just doesn’t look or feel its best and it’s not as soft, smooth or supple as we’d like. Puffiness is most likely to appear on eyelids, around the outer corners of eyes, or on brow bones and while it’s usually your skin’s way of telling you to get more sleep, sometimes that’s not always possible. Luckily, we have a concealer method which will help improve its appearance! First things first, drink up! If your skin is puffy or just generally not looking its best, water will do it the world of good, so aim to drink two glasses before applying your makeup. Then, use a yellow-toned or brightening concealer to highlight these areas and keep your skin looking fresh. For this method you will need a liquid concealer, hydrating moisturiser, and a bit of highlighter.
Here’s how to do it:
Create a mixture using your moisturiser, your liquid concealer, and a bit of highlighter. Dab the mixture onto the puffy areas of your face, using a concealer brush. Clean your concealer brush and then use it to blend the concealer in evenly. Et voila!
